soulja boy marco polo Shoes being distributed to Cape Breton groups
Goodwyn kicked off the charity in Halifax in January to collect shoes for homeless people across the Maritimes.
Sampson, also an outreach worker at the Community Homeless Shelter in Sydney, admitted it was a good feeling all the shoes coming off the truck this week.
The shoes are being shared through eight agencies in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, and many representatives were overwhelmed when picking up the boxes, he added.
“They were very excited, very overwhelmed, actually, that we went through all the trouble to make this happen. They were very appreciative.”
Sampson said it all started when he caught wind of the charity Goodwyn was involved in on Facebook.
Knowing it would benefit Cape Breton, Sampson messaged Goodwyn.
“Myles called me back saying he was interested in doing Cape Breton but didn’t know who to contact or how to go about it,” Sampson said.
“He and I began talking back and forth and we made it happen. I had to go around to all the agencies to find out how many they needed and what sizes and that kind of thing.”
Through the charity, Goodwyn urged people to donate footwear in Halifax to Value Village in Bayers Lake.
Sampson said working at the homeless shelter four years he knows the drastic need for footwear.
“Most of the people who come through the shelter need footwear,” he said.
“Not only here but also other places. For the less fortunate anywhere in the city you’ll notice footwear is what they need the most.
“I’ve seen people come in with odd shoes and shoes that don’t fit.”
Shoes were donated to numerous agencies in Cape Breton.
Sampson said shoes were also donated to Transition House for their Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser where where men walk a mile in women’s high heel shoes.
“I also got 100 pairs of high heels I got for Transition House to keep and store so they can use them for this fundraiser every year. ” Loaves and Fishes, Sydney 100 pairs of shoes
