Danish police say they believe a man killed in a shootout Sunday is responsible for attacks at both a free speech forum and a synagogue in Copenhagen.

On Saturday, a gunman stormed a cafe where controversial Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks and his supporters had gathered for a free speech forum. The shooter killed a 55 year old man and wounded three officers before fleeing, police said.

About 10 hours later, someone approached two officers near a synagogue and started shooting, police said. Those officers were wounded, but another person nearby died.

On Sunday morning, as officers tried to approach a man who may be connected to the attacks, the man opened fire, Copenhagen police said. Police returned fire, killing him. No officers were injured.

While the identity of the shooter was not released, Islamist extremists have made documented threats against Vilks.

Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt said she believes that attack was an act of terror.

“Everything points to . the shooting in Oesterbro (being) a political assassination and therefore a terror attack,” Thorning Schmidt said.

“We have some difficult days ahead . But in Denmark, we will never bow to violence.”

Free speech forum turns deadly

The forum at the cafe Saturday afternoon was interrupted by the sounds of dozens of gunshots.

“Everybody, of course, panicked in the room and tried to run,” professor and satire researcher Dennis Meyhoff Brink said. “We were just hiding . ET),

as well as someone yelling in a foreign language.

The attacker made it just inside the building but apparently got no farther, said Helle Merete Brix, a journalist and founder of the Lars Vilks Committee. The committee supports the cartoonist whose portrayals of the Prophet Mohammed angered many in the Muslim world.

Brix said one man there “acted very quickly and courageously” by pushing a woman down to the ground, then putting himself on top of her so she wouldn’t get shot.

Bodyguards returned fire, the Copenhagen police official said. But the gunman managed to flee.

“We are investigating this as a terror attack,” police investigator Joergen Skov said.

After the attack, what appeared to be the man, dressed in dark clothes, carjacked a civilian’s dark Volkswagen Polo and drove away, Danish police said. That vehicle was found between two train stations.

Copenhagen police later tweeted a picture of the suspect, covered up and dressed in dark clothes, wanted in connection with the attack.

The 55 year old man killed in the cafe shooting hasn’t been identified.

Deadly shooting near synagogue

About 10 hours after the terror attack, someone approached two police officers near a synagogue and started shooting.

The two officers were wounded and survived, but a third person nearby was killed.

The shooter was a man dressed in a light gray jacket, black pants and black shoes.

Investigation leads to shootout

Officers went to an apartment Sunday to investigate the attacks but came under fire, Copenhagen police said.

Police returned fire, fatally shooting the gunman,

Laguna Beach Police have identified the man they say was responsible for a nearly five hour standoff Wednesday night after he allegedly threatened police with a car bomb following a traffic accident.

Edward Ernest Uribe, 41, of Carson, is in custody at Orange County Jail and charged with three felonies: possession of both a firearm and controlled substance and bringing a controlled substance into prison; and three misdemeanors: prohibited person possessing ammunition, resisting a peace officer and being under the influence of a controlled substance, according to a police issued press release. He is being held on $50,000 bail.

Witnesses reported seeing Uribe’s vehicle, a Ford Mustang, driving erratically in Dana Point. They told officers that Uribe had a gun in his lap and fire department and Orange County SWAT team members were called to assist. Officers drew their weapons and tried to get Uribe, who was the only person inside the Mustang,

to exit the car, the release said.

Uribe didn’t comply and during this initial contact, an officer fired one round, striking the Mustang. Uribe was not injured and told police that if the car’s door was pulled open, it would explode, according to a police statement.

Uribe remained in his vehicle and didn’t communicate with police. Residents in the immediate area received a phone message via the AlertOC system advising them to remain in their homes or businesses.

SWAT team members helped transport paramedics in an armored vehicle through the scene into Three Arch Bay to help a 70 year old driver involved in the original accident. Laguna Beach police also transported medical personnel through the scene from Crown Valley Parkway to Mission Hospital, Laguna Beach, with a human organ needed at the hospital, according to the release.

Police: Auburn woman stole 152 items from Walmart

An Auburn woman pushed an entire shopping cart of items past sales staff in Walmart, attempting to steal about $1,300 worth of merchandise, said the Auburn Police Department.

Melissa M. Wednesday after Walmart employees stopped her. The 28 year old had “a little bit of everything,” in her shopping cart, said Police Chief Shawn Butler, from household items to clothing.

The store scanned the merchandise following the arrest to document the number of items stolen and how much they cost. Butler said Boehmer stole 152 separate items costing about $1,300 in total.

“She pushed it (the shopping cart) right out,” he said. “You never know quite what they’re thinking. She did pass all points of sale with the shopping cart, and was stopped shortly thereafter by Walmart employees.”

Bulter said because Boehmer stole more than $1,000 worth of merchandise, she is facing a fourth degree grand larceny charge, which is a class E felony. Boehmer was issued an appearance ticket and will likely appear for her arraignment in Auburn City Court on Friday.

Boehmer has been arrested before for allegedly stealing. She was charged with petit larceny on July 22.

New Wave: Auburn music venue gets makeover as weekly shows resume for fall

For the owners of Falcon Lanes, renovating its bar was a matter of bringing it into the present and bringing in patrons who still may not know it’s there.

The new Tidal Wave Bar will be celebrated Saturday at the launch of its 2017 2018 music series, which will be led off by the band STR8ON.

The new space recently had its wood paneling stripped away and new paint, fans, neon lights and more decor applied over the course of about three weeks, co owner Terri Feldman said Wednesday. The beer posters that covered up unsightly spots in the wall have been taken down, and a new collage of .45s and record sleeves wallpaper the area behind the DJ booth.

“Basically, we took it from the 1950s to now. It looked like an old Polish Falcons club, or like you walked into your grandmother’s house,
the polo club boca raton police department upgrades
” Feldman said. “Our goal was to make it cleaner and crisper.”

Feldman’s partner, Michelle, has owned Falcon Lanes since 2007. Terri said the renovation is the first significant one they’ve done. Live music has been a staple there for about six years except for summers, when its lack of an outdoor space turns patrons toward area bars that have them, Terri said.

When Falcon Lanes is open, benefits also factor heavily into its schedule. It books between 50 and 60 a year, Terri said, both for individuals and entities like St. Joseph School. Aside from donating its room and opening its kitchen, Falcon Lanes also helps secure entertainment and answer any questions hosts might have.

Whether it’s a concert or a benefit, Terri said she and Michelle hope the renovations make the Tidal Wave Bar more inviting to patrons.

Noting that the Polish Falcons building has stood since 1906, Terri believes many in Auburn still don’t know what it is.

“It gets overlooked because it’s on the outskirts, not downtown,” she said. “So many people walk in the door when we do benefits, and they never even knew it was there. We’ve been there 100 years and people who’ve lived in Auburn their whole life never knew we were there.”

For that reason, the Tidal Wave Bar has booked a fall schedule of music that puts fun above anything else. Bands like Bad JuJu and Sloppy Joes play classic and recognizable rock that gets people dancing, Terri said. STR8ON, which will play Falcon Lanes monthly, “drew a decent crowd” in its debut there last year.

The average room is 50 to 100, Terri said, and she hopes to raise it this fall. Even with its 90 foot horseshoe bar, she continued,
the polo club boca raton police department upgrades
the space is big enough to accommodate more people comfortably.
